Best Uses for Solvent Cement - 3 best uses of solvent cement

Best Uses for Solvent Cement

Solvent cement can be used in various ways when you are working on a pipeline at home.

When you are working with PVC plumbing pipes in your home,

you can use this cement to fix new fixator connections, new pipes,

or even some types of plumbing pipe damage.

This cement is not suitable for use with iron or copper water pipes; However,

this can make it much easier to work with ABS or PVC plastic water pipes.

Here are some ideas about using solvent cement effectively.

Repair loose pvc pipe fittings and connections
If you have a drainpipe located under a kitchen, bathroom or laundry sink that has worked its way up,

and the drainpipe is made of PVC plastic, you can easily use solvent cement to fix the problem Huh.

One reason that solvent cement does not adhere properly to PVC pipe or fittings is the lack of a good PVC primer.

So, before you use solvent cement to fix the loose drainpipe connection, pick up a can of PVC primer.

The PVC primer is purple in color and comes with a dabber which makes it easy to apply.

After applying the primer, simply apply this cement in the same manner.

Allow the adhesive to dry, and you should have no further problems with loose connections under your sink.

Install new plumbing pipes in your home

If you need to install new pipeline pipes in your home,

PVC pipe is much easier to work with than old iron pipes or even copper water pipes.

It will allow you to easily make airtight connections between PVC pipe and fixture connection fittings.

Just as you would use PVC primer and solvent cement to repair a loose PVC drain under the sink,

you can use solvent cement to chemically weld pipes for connection fittings.

However, when using solvent cement to attach new pieces of PVC pipe for connection settings, you will also want to make sure that you clean the edges of the pipe with a piece of sandpaper.

This will help the solvent cement adhere better to both PVC pipe and female connection fittings.

Repair short haircut in pvc pipe

If you have a piece of PVC water pipe that is not located on the water main in your home, you may be able to use this cement to fix a very small hairline crack in the pipe. For example, if you have a fairly straight crack in a PVC pipe that is less than about 1 inch in length, applying a generous amount of PVC solvent cement to the crack can actually fill the crack and cause leakage Can be stopped.

When choosing solvent cement to fix a small hairline crack, choose a good silicone-based type.

These types of cement are usually slightly more expensive, but they are much better at fixing small cracks in PVC pipes.
